Bread sauce is one of the traditional accompaniments that I make for Christmas. It's literally made from bread and milk, but tastes surprisingly good with turkey.

Ingredients

quantity      ingredient     
250 ml milk
30 g butter
45 g white, soggy English-style bread with crust cut off
1 small onion stuck with cloves
4 g salt
(white) pepper

Put ingredients into a small saucepan, then tear the bread into small pieces and add to the milk. Warm slowly, stirring with a wooden spoon to break up the bread. When it comes to the boil, continue to break up until the sauce is smooth. Simmer for about 5 minutes, then leave for at least half an hour. Warm up before serving.
