Gyros is really the Greek name for döner kebab, which is made on a rotating spit. That's impractical at home, so we make it from marinated strips of lamb fried on the barbecue. On 15 August 2010 I was left to marinate a gyros without a recipe. This is the recipe I came up with.
quantity | ingredient | step | ||
750 g | lamb round | 1 | ||
15 g | garlic | 2 | ||
1.5 g | thyme branch | 2 | ||
2 g | rosemary branch | 2 | ||
50 ml | oil | 2 | ||
1 g | dried oregano | 2 | ||
Chop the meat into thin strips.
Remove the leaves from the herb branches and discard the branches. Peel the garlic. Blend all ingredients until finely chopped, then marinate for 3 hours.
Fry in oil on a barbecue plate until relatively crisp.
