My father, Norman George Lehey, turned 80 years old on 29 March 2003. On 12 April we
celebrated his birthday in the Court Theatre
in Stratford, on the river Avon in
Gippsland. Here are some of the better photos. They're all there, including the less
successful ones, here and here.. I also took a number of photos at
the barbecue the following day, and in a fit of
forgetfulness I started all over again here
This has nothing to do with the party, of course, but since my father is the oldest male
Lehey, and has been since his father George died, it seemed somehow appropriate.
Things started off with drinks in the foyer. Stratford isn't exactly easy to get to: it's
230 km East of Melbourne, and I was impressed by the number of people who came. For us it was a
1000 km journey.
One person Dad wasn't expecting was his boyhood friend, Jack Flett, whom he hadn't seen for
70 years. We had stopped by to visit him on the way and
persuaded him to come. It was certainly a successful surprise. Here they are together:
