These are the flowers we had in the garden in mid-summer 2023, taken mainly on 21 January 2023. They're not all overly pretty, but the purpose of the photos is to record what was in the garden at the time.
We've been here for nearly 8 years now, and there's precious little to show for it. The best I can say is that nothing much has died in the last month. But here's a 7-year-old Ginkgo biloba and a 5 year old Box Elder, both still alive, both well under 1 m high:

The Corymbia ficifolia that we bought 3½ years ago (to replace the previous one that died) is also not dead yet. In fact, it has some indication that it might be preparing to flower (at a time when the trees are normally in full flower):

My carefully coddled Hibiscus rosa-sinensis “Uncle Max” isn't dead yet, though I missed the two flowers that it has produced so far this season:

And the Camellia japonica that we brought with us from Kleins Road is still looking really sick, as it has done since we planted it here:

Nearby, the Leucadendron is also looking unhappy, but in this case it's because its pot got flooded, and there's hope that it will recover:

And the Trachelospermum jasminoides that has been here for hearly 8 years isn't dead yet either:

For all that and all the money I spend on gardening help, the place is a mess:

Why do I bother? It wasn't always like this. Ten years ago the garden was looking good and attractive. Now it's just frustrating.
