The Contax D is a development
of the Contax S, almost the first
SLR with a
pentaprism. I received mine

What's the difference between the Contax S and the Contax D? It's difficult to find out for
sure. There's a lot of incorrect and inaccurate information out there. Certainly the
letter D had nothing to do with Dresden, the German camera city round the middle of the 20th century: there
were also planned models A, B and C, which never saw the light of day.
By comparison, the S for the first model is clear: „Spiegelreflex“, SLR: this was
the first Zeiss SLR.
The differences that I have established are very minor: the flash sync terminal is on the
top plate, whereas on the Contax S it was underneath the camera. And the
