On 31 January 2002, one of Ed Hay's workers was working on a fence near Diane Saunders' place. He decided to use an angle grinder to do some cutting; the sparks set fire to the scrub around him. He didn't even have a phone with him, and had to go to seek help. Fortunately, the weather was neither overly hot nor overly dry, and the damage was minimal. On a bad day, he could have burnt down Diane's house, and the fire would probably have jumped the road and come down our way.
